Crocheting has been a cherished part of my life for the last 10 years. It's an awesome hobby that keeps my mind calm and helps me unleash my creativity. As a passionate crocheter myself, I can't help but get excited about turning a simple ball of yarn into something beautiful.
The best part about crocheting as a hobby is that it doesn't have to break the bank. All you really need is some yarn and a hook. And with some resourcefulness, you'll find a wealth of free crochet patterns right at your fingertips.

So if you're ready to embark on this crafting journey, there's a world of free crochet patterns in various places online and offline. Here are some popular resources:
Find Crochet Patterns on Ravelry
Ravelry is a yarn artist's favorite place to hang out. It's an online community for knitting and crochet enthusiasts. They offer a huge database where knit and crochet designers share their patterns for free and you can search them by craft, project type, skill level, yarn weight, and availability (FREE!).
You can search on Ravelry without an account. However, creating an account allows you to save your favorite patterns, come back to them later, and share your progress on the project with the community.
You'll be able to find crochet patterns of all categories on Ravelry including beanies, scarves, sweaters, baby blankets, and more!
Craft and Crochet Directories
A few websites are dedicated to sharing crochet patterns for free. Many of them act as directories of crochet patterns where designers submit their patterns to get them in front of the eyes of other crafters.
AllFreeCrochet.com and Free-Crochet-Patterns.com are crochet directories that share crochet patterns for crocheters of all skills. They are suitable for crafters from beginners to advanced who are looking for crochet patterns, tutorials, and inspiration.
If you're looking specifically for amigurumi patterns, amigurumi.com offers both paid and free crochet patterns by different designers.
Yarn Company Websites
Aside from these directory websites, many yarn company websites also share free knitting and crochet patterns to help showcase their yarn and what you could possibly make with them. Check out these yarn companies that offer free patterns:
- WeCrochet offers free patterns for a variety of yarn weights, fibers, and styles.
- Hobbii Yarn has free patterns on their website designed using their yarn.
- Lion Brand Yarn is a fifth-generation family-owned business. Their website provides a wide range of crochet patterns designed using their various yarn lines.
- Yarnspiration, which includes brands like Bernat, Caron, Patons, and Red Heart Yarn, provides crochet patterns for their yarn lines.
- DROPS Design is a popular European yarn brand, and they provide a wealth of crochet patterns on their website, along with step-by-step tutorials.
- Universal Yarn features crochet patterns that span different skill levels and project types.
- Premier Yarns offers a selection of crochet patterns for projects using their yarn products.
- Cascade Yarns provides crochet patterns featuring their yarn lines.

Aside from offering crochet patterns on their websites for free, many yarn companies actually turn the crochet patterns into kits that you can purchase for your convenience.
Crochet Blogs with Free Patterns
So many crochet enthusiasts and designers, including myself, share our crochet patterns for free on our blogs. A simple web search for a specific crochet project or stitch will often lead to various blog posts with free patterns.
AllAboutAmi is a popular knitting and crochet blog created by Stephanie. This blog is well-known for its amigurumi designs. Over time, Stephanie has branched out to make beautiful knit and crochet garments and accessories and shares all her patterns for free on her blog.
One Dog Woof is a popular craft and lifestyle blog created and maintained by ChiWei. The blog covers a variety of crafting topics, including crochet, knitting, sewing, and other DIY projects.
Repeat Crafter Me is a well-known craft blog on the Internet created by Sarah. The blog mainly focuses on crochet and features a wide range of crochet patterns and tutorials. Sarah is very creative and comes up with new projects very regularly.
There are so many highly regarded crochet bloggers and also some that are just starting out. I'm sure I will have a more comprehensive list for you one day.
Find Crochet Patterns on YouTube
YouTube offers video tutorials for crochet patterns and techniques, which can be extremely helpful for visual learners. Best of all, most of them are free to access. If you are just starting to learn the craft, you can watch experienced crocheters demonstrate the pattern step-by-step, making it easier to understand and follow along.
There's a strong crochet community presence on YouTube and it's constantly updated with new crochet tutorials and patterns. Crochet tutorials on YouTube are easily accessible by anyone who has a computer, tablet, or smartphone. You can even pause, rewind, slow down, speed up, or skip to a part of the pattern as needed to make your project.

Find Crochet Patterns on Pinterest
Pinterest is a great platform to search, discover, and save crochet patterns. Pinterest is a visual search engine that allows its users to browse through a collection to see what piques their interest. Users can create collections and boards to organize their saved pins. This is a handy feature for curating a personal collection of patterns you want to try for later.
Many talented crocheters and bloggers share their crochet patterns and tutorials on Pinterest. This user-generated content often includes links to free patterns on external websites or blogs, where you can access more detailed instructions.
After curating your own Pinterest boards and pinning images that interest you, Pinterest will start suggesting pins that might interest you. From there, you might even discover a new world of possibilities!
Free Crochet Patterns at the Library
Finding free crochet patterns at the library may require a bit more research because it largely depends on the resources and services offered by your local community. If you go to your library in person, librarians can often be a valuable resource in helping you find what you are looking for.
Libraries also have access to digital resources, including e-books and e-magazine subscriptions, which might have crochet patterns. From my local library, I was able to get access to PressReader, which is a digital platform and app that provides access to thousands of periodicals including crochet magazines from around the world.
Crochet Magazine Websites
As mentioned above, I was able to get access to dozens of crafts and crochet magazines through my library. But aside from reading the actual magazine, crochet magazine websites often offer free crochet patterns as well.
Simply Crochet magazine is one of my favorite crochet magazines. They're based in the UK, so the crochet stitch abbreviations are a bit different. However, they offer a variety of projects in their magazine as well as free crochet patterns on their website.
Unfortunately, fewer and fewer crochet magazines are being published nowadays as more publications are moving towards the digital platform. In fact, several crochet magazines that I used to read and follow have closed their doors within the last few years. With the few that are remaining, there are a limited number of freebies on their websites.
Online Crochet Communities
Joining online crochet communities is a great way to access various designs and connect with fellow crocheters. You can see what others are making and find out where to get the pattern. Crocheters are often willing to share patterns they've created or found.
There are a few online forums that are dedicated to crochet and knitting like the following:
- Crochetville - The Crochet Forum
- Crochet Talk - Crocheting and Knitting Discussion Forum
- FiberKind
- KnittingHelp Forum Community
- Knitting Paradise - Knitting and Crochet Forum
You can also find crochet patterns on Reddit by exploring various subreddits (individual discussion communities) dedicated to crochet and related topics. There are new subreddits that are being created every day, so this isn't the complete list. However, here are some subreddits that are crochet-focused that you can start with:
Social Media
Finding free and easy crochet patterns on social media platforms is rather straightforward, as many crocheters and designers share their designs, ideas, and project inspiration online. Be sure to follow your favorite designers on Instagram and Facebook to get the latest projects.
For crochet designers to get their patterns in front of the eyes of more people on social media, they use appropriate hashtags, such as #crochetpatterns, #freecrochetpatterns, or specific project-related hashtags like #freeamigurumipattern.
Some designers share their free patterns directly on their Instagram and Facebook accounts. Many others make their announcements on the social media platform for their latest free crochet pattern but will let you know how and where to get it (i.e. their blog, website, Ravelry, etc.).
Where will you be looking for your next project?
