VLOG#1: From BLOG to VLOG? Trying Out Something New

| Original: January 29, 2025

Hi, I'm Juli, the blogger behind Once Upon a Cheerio! For years, I've shared my crochet patterns and crafty adventures through my blog, but now I'm stepping outside my comfort zone and trying something completely new—vlogging! It's a little nerve-wracking, but I’m excited to take you along for the journey.

Why Vlogging?

If you've been following me for a while, you know that I usually stay behind the scenes. The thought of being in front of the camera has always made me nervous. But lately, I’ve been thinking about how important it is to embrace self-acceptance and confidence—especially as a mom raising two daughters. If I want to encourage them to be comfortable in their own skin, I need to lead by example. So here I am, pushing past my camera anxiety and giving vlogging a shot!

My Crochet and Blogging Journey

I’ve been crocheting for over 10 years and blogging for about 7. It all started as a fun way to share my projects on Instagram, but eventually, I started designing my own patterns. Crochet has been a creative outlet for me, and I love giving back to the community by offering free patterns on my blog. It makes me so happy to see people all over the world recreating my designs!

Why the Shift to Vlogging?

My YouTube channel initially gained traction with crochet tutorials, but filming them was a challenge. Unlike blogging, where I could take my time crafting a post, video tutorials required me to crochet perfectly on camera. Editing was another hurdle—it was so time-consuming that I eventually fell behind, and my channel lost its monetization.

Instead of letting my channel fade away, I decided to try something different: vlogging. I love watching small business and maker vlogs, and I realized that this format might be a more sustainable way for me to share my behind-the-scenes process, ideas, and inspirations.

Moving Forward

This vlog is a new way for me to connect with you all, share my journey, and give you a glimpse into what goes on behind Once Upon a Cheerio. It won’t be perfect (and that’s okay!), but I hope it will be a fun and more personal way to document my creative adventures.

I’d love for you to check out my first vlog, where I dive deeper into all of this. Let me know what you think—should I keep going with vlogging? What kind of content would you like to see?

Thanks for being part of this journey with me! 💕
