Last month, I shared the amigurumi crochet pattern for my Sadness amigurumi from Inside Out. Well, how can we only live with Sadness? That would just be too depressing.
So I decided to make Joy too!
As I mentioned last month, my kids were collecting these toys called, "minis".
It first started off with Toy Story Minis then it went on to Pixar Minis. BB has been asking for Joy and Sadness from Pixar's Inside Out and initially, we were only able to locate Sadness.
Every morning on the weekend, she would climb into my bed to wake me up and tell me that we were going to go out and look for Pixar Mini's Joy. It's become her obsession at some point and I was getting more annoyed than anything.
I thought that I would make her a Joy amigurumi so that she would stop asking me to buy her the Pixar Mini Joy.
It's not so much because I didn't want to buy it for her, but more so because I was concerned we wouldn't actually be able to find it.
Sadly, my amigurumi did not satisfy her need to find Joy and she continued asking... every weekend.
It took a lot of searching around the city but lucky for BB, we did eventually find Joy.
Nonetheless, now I have a Joy and Sadness amigurumi for my own collection and I hope that you get to make them for yourself too!
Did you watch Pixar's animated film, Inside Out? Who was your favorite character? I also have a free amigurumi crochet pattern for Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear.

- Worsted weight yarn in the following colors:
- Yellow (try using Brava Worsted in Canary)
- Blue (try using Brava Worsted in Celestial)
- Lime Green (I used Brava Worsted in Alfalfa)
- 3.0 mm Crochet Hook
- Safety Eyes (I used 6.0 mm)
- Poly-fil or any Polyester Stuffing of your choice
- Yarn Needle
- Stitch Markers
- Scissors
Stitches & Abbreviations
- st/sts - stitch/stitches
- ch - chain
- slst - slip stitch
- sc - single crochet (using the yarn under method)
- sc inc - single crochet increase, 2 single crochets in one stitch
- sc dec - single crochet decrease, single crochet 2 stitches together
- hdc - half double crochet
- BLO - back loops only
Notes
- I made this amigurumi doll using the "Yarn Under Single Crochet" technique. This technique makes the stitches tighter and appears more aligned.
- I also used a half-color changing technique to achieve cleaner lines when changing colors from one row to another.
- When working on the hairpiece, I used the underside of the piece as the "outside" or the side that is showing. The curls of the strands will follow a natural curl towards the face.
- I used the invisible fasten-off method to neatly finish the work before I weaved in my ends.
- Final measurements: approximately 12 cm / 4.7 inches
